How to Loop a Part of a YouTube Video for Dance Practice

Yes — you can loop any section of a YouTube video. The manual way is an A/B looper: you mark a start point and an end point, and the video repeats between them. The easier way for dance: Mark8 automatically divides the video into practice sections, so you tap a section and it loops — no marking points yourself.

Can you loop a section of a YouTube video? Yes — two ways

The manual way: A/B loop tools

Tools like LoopTube or Web Video Looper work: paste the URL, set point A, set point B, repeat. The fiddly part is landing A exactly where the move starts — overshoot by a second and you're re-finding it after every rep. And you get one loop at a time: when you're ready for the next part, you mark it all over again.

The automatic way: practice sections

Paste the same link into Mark8 and the video arrives already divided into practice sections. Tap one to loop it. Tap the next when you're ready. A section is a starting point, not a perfect cut of every move — you can adjust where it starts, change its length, or join neighbours into a longer phrase.

How to learn a dance from a YouTube video, section by section

  1. 1

Watch the full video once, hands down

Don't dance yet. Note the 2–3 moments that look hardest — those are the sections you'll loop most.

  2. 2

Loop the first section at 0.75× until 3 clean reps

Not until it feels perfect — three clean repetitions. Perfectionism here is how people spend 40 minutes on the first 10 seconds.

  3. 3

Move to the next section — don't re-drill the first

The classic mistake is restarting from the top every time you mess up. Trust the reps you already banked.

  4. 4

Join two neighbouring sections once both are clean

Practise the transition — the end of one section into the start of the next. That's where routines actually break, not inside the sections.

  5. 5

One full run at normal speed, no pausing

Note exactly where you blank. That spot is tomorrow's first section.

The decision rule: move on when you can do 3 clean reps, not when it feels perfect. You can always come back — and you will, when you join sections.

Slow down and mirror a YouTube dance video

YouTube's own speed menu goes down to 0.25×, but it resets per video and has no loop — so you're choosing between slow or repeating. For practice you want both at once. A workable speed ladder: start at 0.75×, drop to 0.5× only for footwork detail, and return to full speed before you join sections — practising slow too long builds a slow habit.

Mirror the video when you're following a front-facing tutorial (their left becomes your left). Don't mirror a performance video if you'll perform facing the same direction as the original — you'd learn it backwards.

When a YouTube video won't work

Some videos can't be imported — platform restrictions, regional blocks, or the uploader's settings. Processing also takes a few minutes before practice begins. If a link fails, the fallback is simple: upload the video file directly, or use an Instagram link instead.

FAQ

Can you loop a section of a YouTube video?

Yes. Manually, with an A/B loop tool where you mark start and end points. Or with Mark8, which divides the video into practice sections automatically — tap a section and it loops.

How do I loop a specific part of a YouTube video without an extension?

Use a web-based looper (no install): paste the link, set your points. Mark8 does this in the browser too, and skips the point-marking by creating sections for you.

Can I slow down a YouTube dance video and loop it at the same time?

YouTube's own player can't combine both usefully. Practice tools can — in Mark8, set the speed once and every section you loop plays at that speed.

Is there a way to practise a YouTube dance in sections instead of one loop?

Yes — that's exactly what practice sections are for. Work through the routine one section at a time, then join neighbouring sections to rehearse longer phrases.

Does this work on YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels?

Shorts and Reels links work the same way when the platform allows import. Vertical crops can hide footwork — if a full-body version exists, practise from that.

Do I need an account to try it?

No account for the prepared practice example. To import your own video you create a free account — Mark8 is in free beta, and your video is processed before practice begins.
